SERVICES

At SWAT, we believe in the 5R’s of Integrated Wildfire Management. We provide risk reduction services, from cultural and preventative burns to brush clearing to make homes and critical infrastructure safer, as well as mitigate the environmental impacts of late dry season fires. We provide readiness by providing top-of-the-line trainers, materials, and equipment to mitigate potential wildfire dangers. And we provide response by having elite teams of firefighters and fire managers capable of responding anywhere globally.

When the fires are out or the incident is out of the way, we have the capacity to assist with recovery of the landscape and those that work within it.  In our individual and collective capacity, the SWAT team helps with data collection to assist those individuals undertaking research into improving the efficiencies and effectiveness of the related services thereby mitigating risk to people, the economy and the environment.

RESEARCH

The SWAT team helps with data collection to assist those individuals and organizations undertaking research into improving the efficiencies and effectiveness of the integrated wildfire services thereby mitigating risk to people, the economy and the environment.

R

REDUCTION

The Charlie Team (“the Charlies”) are able to assist across the landscape in reducing the risk of a wildfire.  From clearing large tracts of land with excessive fuel, to constructing defensible space around homes, business, heritage sites, etc. These activities include prescribe burns (ecological and fuel reduction), drafting of burn plans, if necessary, permit application.  Our specially trained Burn Bosses, Cultural Burners, and Wildfire Scientists know how to do this necessary activity with high levels of professionalism and effectiveness.

We train, capacitate and mentor land managers and landowners so that they can take on these sometimes risky activities in their own countries.

The Charlies are specialists at constructing fire/fuel breaks in many vegetation types.  They are trained to use chainsaws and brushcutters so the clearing of invasive alien plant species is all in a day’s work for them.  Where the use of herbicide is permitted, we have crew members that are certified to use these products in a safe and appropriate way.

R

READINESS

The Alpha Team (“the Alphas) provide high-quality training regimens internally to SWAT and externally to agencies globally.

The Alphas are a small team of our most experienced members of SWAT, capable of delivering high-end wildfire suppression training, Incident Command System (“ICS”) training, and stepping in as coaches or Incident Management Teams (“IMT’s”) for complex incidents.  The SWAT partners have some of the most experienced and competent wildfire specialists that have been involved in many large incidents in their own countries and other countries around the world.  Have a look at the individuals to see what they have been up to and what they are capable of.

R

RESPONSE

The Bravo Team (“the Bravos”): these are our crews that are responsible for the Response component of the 5 R’s. These are career wildland firefighters, capable of deploying anywhere in the world. These individuals are trained to meet to meet the USA Type I standard.  On an ongoing basis, they are learning how to fight fires in different scenarios, fuel types, and fire regimes across the globe.

Depending on where The Bravos are stationed on standby, they will train and assist the Charlie team on fuel abatement projects around the base location. The Bravos are composed of wildland firefighters from around the world and local firefighters hired and trained in the area of operations. The Bravos prepare the Charlie team to assist in wildfire suppression activities as a mop-up or Type II crew.

The Bravos are made up of different modules, capable of acting alone as a 4-10 person helitack crew, as a stick of 10 firefighters or joining together in crews of 20.

RECOVERY

When the fires are out or the incident is out of the way, we have the capacity to assist with recovery of the landscape and to assist those that work within it.
